Questions for answers

Whose definition are we listening to—that dictated by Anna Wintour, Vogue and the Industry, or that of our own?

——

What if we determined the cost we will pay? What if we developed our own idea of identity? What if we actually lived it—what would happen?

We are combating more than a September Issue. I believe more strongly than ever before, “THIS IS AN ISSUE OF IDENTITY.”

Missions of reconnaissance

The rebellious spirit is best pursued, in my opinion, through secret ops that challenge the reign of the oppressive power. This is what I propose: challenge the power, not of the monarchy of Vogue in its entirety, but simply challenge the power that it has upon you personally, through the fashion industry by exploring yourself and how you define beauty.

Join me in a series of recon missions to redeem the lost sense of true self that has been held captive, as a P.O.W. in the fight for image, instigated by the fashion monarchy.

Past personal

I am in the midst of pain as I have discovered a depth of emotion surrounding this.

The readings and research I have done thus far have brought me to the logical understanding of the monarchy amongst us. I realized that there was an exerted sense of control within our society, and that it is something we often tend to conform to.

I know I am influenced by this system, as we all are, but something has changed, and outside of my plan, this project became personal. I was previously affected on an emotional level by these realizations of our societal perception and definition of beauty, but it has passed that point.

I am beginning my missions today. I invite you to join. I will be photographing myself as I go through them, so whether or not you take part in these or live vicariously through mine, you are welcome to join me on this venture.

One

Anna Wintour, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue exerts an opinion that carries unrivaled strength with her recognition of power in the fashion industry. Our societal definition of beauty, and therefore the development of our individual identity, is influenced by the world of fashion. The common perception is that our external image both defines and reflects our identity, and with this mentality, the fashion world has gained deep-rooted power—being led by the monarchical system of Vogue.

“The single most important person in the 300 billion dollar industry…” Is there one person—really, just one?” — The September Issue, R.J. Cutler

This is canvas

Within this space, this one frame, is freedom. Freedom to question, to think, and to explore. I will be posting my thoughts and the things I notice in relation to fashion, society and the identity of beauty.

Welcome. I invite you into this space to inquire as well—to join me in this mission to question the frame in which we abide and develop the strength to shatter it, if need be…
